MARIN SERVICES FOR WOMEN (MSW) offers a full continuum of recovery programs to meet the needs of our clients. MSW's empowerment model is grounded in shared values of respect, compassion, accountability and mutual support that informs all aspects of our programs. Our trauma-specific treatment approach is empowerment based, culturally responsive and incorporates an understanding of women's identity development and woman-specific addiction and recovery processes. As the leading service provider for pregnant and parenting women, our programs completely support the needs of pregnant mothers and children under the age of six. MSW offers a full continuum of care which enables a cost-effective, individualized treatment experience by allowing for the client's participation in one or more levels of care as she progresses through treatment. MSW also provides family programs to promote the education, healing and recovery of the entire family, and we provide a safe, healing, supportive environment and individualized treatment to help women overcome drug and alcohol addiction. We go to great lengths to make everything about your stay as comfortable as possible. Residents are treated with the respect that they deserve and enjoy the luxuries that help make treatment a positive experience.

Residential Recovery ProgramMSW's Residential Recovery Program is organized and staffed to provide both general and specialized non-hospital-based interdisciplinary services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for women with alcohol and drug addictions. A limited number of clients can bring a child age five and under to reside with them in the Residential Recovery Program. Specific pregnancy and parenting-related services are provided. Length of stay is individualized according to client assessment. The Residential Recovery Program is trauma-specific, utilizes the case management approach and provides a comprehensive treatment schedule seven days a week. The therapeutic approach includes clients' participation in meal preparation and housekeeping, in addition to the chemical dependency treatment curriculum which includes the following:
Day or Evening Outpatient Program
Outpatient Treatment is a structured, three-phase program with individualized, comprehensive, and intensive services available as both a Day or Evening Program. In the first phase of treatment women build the foundation for their recovery by learning essential information about their disease, opening themselves up to new attitudes and ideas, developing tools to support them in sobriety and allowing personal and shared experiences to move them toward health and wholeness. In the second phase of treatment women develop self-esteem and practical life skills to equip them for living a positive and productive life without alcohol or drugs. Upon completion of primary and secondary treatment, women in the third phase receive ongoing support and attend weekly groups for deeper development of personal growth and a stronger recovery. There is complimentary child care available during treatment. Treatment activities include:
Transitional / Independent Living ProgramProvides affordable clean and sober housing for women who have graduated from a primary chemical dependency treatment program and for women who are currently enrolled in our Outpatient Programs. MSW's housing program is designed for women with established recovery who are stabilized, employed and/or attending training and educational programs. We welcome mothers who may bring up to two children under the age of 10.
Child Development Center
Our Child Development Center provides a safe, fun and educational environment for children five and under while their mothers are receiving treatment. We offer individualized child assessments and therapy. Children are assessed for early childhood trauma and effects of fetal alcohol syndrome. In order to help mother and child enrich and strengthen their relationship our staff teach parenting classes. We provide tools and materials to help mothers build healthy relationships with their children.
Veteran Workforce Readiness ProgramMSW's Economic Self Sufficiency Program assists female veterans who struggle with trauma and substance abuse issues that create barriers to employment in a civilian workforce. MSW is one of the few treatment providers that include an innovative Trauma Services Program Component to help women learn to cope with their trauma and PTSD. MSW provides a safe, supportive, women-only female veteran drug and alcohol rehab, addiction, and trauma treatment program. In addition women in this program receive additional services, such as: Intensive case management emphasizing surpassing barriers to civilian employment
Trauma Recovery Services
Trauma assessment and recovery services are a core component in both Residential and Outpatient Programs. MSW provides specialized psycho-educational groups to address recovery from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and/or anxiety and depression. We use "Seeking Safety" designed by Lisa M. Najavitis, Ph.D., which is a present-focused therapy to help women develop coping skills and recovery from PTSD and substance abuse.
Continuing Care
Provides unlimited weekly counseling groups for clients who have completed a primary recovery program. Women for whom PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) or anger management issues present significant relapse problems may opt for trauma-specific or anger management-specific continuing care groups.
Alumnae AssociationThe MSW Alumni Association is a fellowship of program graduates who work together to strengthen and support each others' recovery. This group of women are active in hosting the three treatment program graduations each year, volunteering at MSW events and providing activities for current program treatment participants. They provide support to women in residence by attending joint weekly groups and through their Big Sister Program. For many recovering women who may have come from a background of anxiety, social discomfort and a distrust of other women, the discovery- or rediscovery-of female friendships is a powerful source of joy and support for continued sobriety.
